Steve Berch has lived and worked in West Boise’s District 15 for 44 years. He was elected to the Idaho state legislature in 2018, representing District 15 (West Boise and East Meridian). Steve ran five times before winning his seat and has been re-elected three times since. He is the first Democratic candidate ever elected by his district, where registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by over two-to-one. In 2025 Steve was elected to be the Assistant Minority Leader by the House Democratic caucus.
Steve serves on the House Revenue and Taxation, Business, Local Government, and Ways & Means committees. He previously served on the House Education committee. He is also a member of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee (JLOC), which oversees the Office of Performance Evaluations (OPE), which provides in-depth research and analysis for projects addressing issues and topics vital to the citizens of Idaho. JLOC is the only equally bi-partisan committee in the Idaho Legislature.
Steve was also elected to a six-year term on the Board of Directors of the Greater Boise Auditorium District in 2013, which oversees Boise’s convention center (the Boise Centre on the Grove). He worked in a variety of positions at the Hewlett Packard Company in Boise for over 30 years, including long term strategic planning and program management for multiple HP business divisions.
Steve and his wife Leslie have been married for 42 years. Their daughter Katie is attending Boise State University, pursuing a master’s degree in teaching.
